6 Work-Life Balance Tips for 2019

When you reflect on 2018, what are the milestones that come to mind? Are there things you wish you’d done differently? Perhaps how you spent your time comes to mind.

For many business owners, walking the tightrope of work-life balance becomes more and more difficult as the success of their company increases. Finding time for yourself amidst growing your business and spending time with family may seem out of the question. However, research shows that professionals who make this “me time” outside of work a priority are actually more engaged and productive during their work day.

If you’re looking to bolster the life side of your work-life balance equation in 2019, here are six things you can try.

  1. Meditate
With your life always on the go, it’s important to give your mind time to recharge and your body time to relax. Don’t be intimidated if you’ve never tried meditation. You can start as simply as five minutes a day, eventually working your way up to 20 or even 30.  If you want to learn more, here’s a great tutorial for getting started:  Learn more about meditation
  2. Find a hobby
Or devote more time to a neglected hobby. Maybe you’ve always wanted to learn how to play the guitar or have been meaning to brush up on your Spanish from your college days. Whatever it is, find something that’s just for you and indulge in it every week.
  3. Get physical
Exercising your body is equally as important as exercising your mind. The most important thing about creating an exercise routine that will stick is making sure it’s something you enjoy. You don’t have to be a marathon runner to reap the physical, mental and emotional benefits of physical activity
  4. Make time for family
Long hours at the office can mean sacrificing quality time with your spouse, children, grandchildren, etc. If you struggle with prioritizing family over your business needs, try shifting your mindset to start thinking of family time as part of your everyday schedule you refuse to miss. Never lose sight of what motivates you to work so hard in the first place.
  5. Plan a vacation
Taking a break from work where you can unplug and unwind is great for your mental health. Have faith that your employees can handle the business while you’re gone. If you can’t afford to take extended time off, make sure you pencil in some personal days every few weeks to give you something to look forward to.
  6. Give back
We know that doing things for others makes us feel good but finding the time to do so can be challenging. In addition to giving a monetary donation to a charity of your choosing in 2019, add a company service outing where you can spend the day donating your time.

The Bottom Line
True success stems from all aspects of your life, not just work. Make sure you make the “life” in work-life balance a priority in 2019 by incorporating things like meditation, vacations and physical activity into your schedule.
